The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, put the cession of the Casa del Mar de Lira, in Carnota, as an example of the commitment of the Government with the municipalities and with the improvement of the services to the citizens. He did so during the handing over of the keys to the property to the mayor of Carnota, Juan Manuel Saborido, a symbolic act with which the Government delivers this property, which the Xunta returned to the Social Security Treasury a year ago, to allocate it to social, cultural and training activities.
María Rivas, who was accompanied by the provincial director of the Social Security Treasury, Miguel Planas, stressed that the reversal was possible thanks to the legal change made by the Government in terms of ascriptions last year and that it will allow hundreds of empty properties throughout Spain that are subject to interest by other administrations “to be put in value and enjoyed by citizens.”
No case of the House of the Sea of Lira, the building will continue to house the Health Center on its ground floor, while the remaining 562 square meters, which had been transferred at the time to the Xunta for assistance and social services linked to the Social Institute of the Mariña and which had been unused for several years, become attached since October 28 and for a period of 20 years to the City of Carnota to put it at the service of the citizens.
This assignment is in addition to those of Santiago de Compostela, Boiro and Camariñas. Not first of all, the Ministry of Inclusion agreed to the cession of two properties to the City Council to set up a sociocultural center and a day center of public management; in Camariñas the City Council was ceded to Casa del Mar de Camelle for use by the citizens, while in Boiro, the City Council recovered the uses of the property that was already owned two years before the expiration of the period of cession.
The subdelegate of the Government framed these transfers in the commitment of permanent collaboration of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with local governments and with the improvement of the public services they provide to the citizens. “With these changes we make it possible that what belongs to everyone can be enjoyed by everyone and that those administrations that want to value this type of property can do it for the benefit of the population,” he added.
Visit to Costas works
The deputy delegate took advantage of her visit to the town hall to supervise, accompanied by the mayor, the work being carried out by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge on the beach of Carnota, in the area of Caldebarco. “These works are part of an action of the Ministry to fight erosion on the coast of A Coruña and, at the same time, increase its resilience to the effects of climate change,” said the subdelegate, who stressed the importance of conserving ecosystems “to be able to continue enjoying sandy areas as beautiful as Carnota, the largest in Galicia.”
The works carried out by Costas consist of the management of pedestrian access in Caldebarco, Boca del lo ríe, Carnota and Mallou in order to reduce erosion and strengthen these spaces in the face of climate change. Currently, work is being done in the northern area of the beach, known as Caldebarco due to the proximity to the village of the same name. There, the Ministry is removing the materials used for the esplanation of the football field that was used as parking and preventing the access of vehicles through the placement of a deterrent to achieve the regeneration of this space. Likewise, it will enable a single route for pedestrian traffic, instead of the two existing on the dune, through a wooden walkway delimited by roped piles.
In addition to Carnota, the plan includes actions in the dunar ecosystems of Morouzos (Ortigueira), Vilarrube (Valdoviño), San Xurxo (Ferrol), Baldaio (Carballo), Soesto and Traba (Laxe), Nemiña (Muxía) and June (Porto do Son), which will allow to restore 33.9 Km of degraded areas and ecosystems of the coast of A Coruña. The overall budget amounts to 2,558,652.90 euros and all works are expected to be executed during 2025.
