The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today in Ourense the role of Coren as an example of business success, territorial roots and commitment to the future of the Galician and Spanish agri-food sector.” He did so during his visit to the Poultry Processing Center that the cooperative has in Santa Cruz de Arrabaldo, accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, and by leaders of the group, among them the president, Manuel Gómez-Franqueira, and the general director, Emilio Rial.
Pedro Blanco added value to the trajectory of Coren, “a pioneering Galician cooperative that combines tradition and innovation to respond to the current challenges of the sector, betting on quality, sustainability and animal welfare”.
He recalled that the group, with more than 60 years of history, is today the state leader in poultry production and has a production model that integrates 4,000 partners and more than 3,000 workers in the 23 industries settled in Galicia, generating employment and wealth throughout the community.
During the visit to the chicken and turkey production facilities, the delegate also highlighted Coren’s commitment to R&D, digitalization and the implementation of productive and energy efficiency systems. “Coren is a pride for Galicia and a sign of how the primary sector can also be a technological vanguard,” said the delegate, who reiterated “the hand of the Government of Spain” to support strategic projects such as those promoted by the cooperative.
For his part, the president of Coren, Manuel Gómez-Franqueira, conveyed his gratitude to the representatives of the central government for the visit and highlighted and the interest they showed in knowing the activity carried out by the cooperative, “a production based on the principles of respect for animal welfare, care for the environment and the highest quality”, as well as their commitment “to development with the Galician rural”.
On the other hand, Pedro Blanco stressed the Government’s support to the agri-food sector through the Recovery Plan, with a determined commitment to the funds of PERTE Campo. “The government has mobilized more than 2 billion euros to modernize a key sector for our country,” he concluded. In the first of these calls, managed by the Ministry of Industry, 4 projects were selected in which Galician companies participate and which receive aid from the Government of 54 million euros.
