The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted in Santiago the government’s work in favor of the social and labor inclusion of people with disabilities in Galicia, “reversing cuts and adding rights”. He did so at the VII Cegasal Awards, where he congratulated the organization for its long commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities in Galicia.
“This Government shares with Cegasal the importance of employment for improving the quality of life of this group, since it is the key tool to deepen personal emancipation,” said Pedro Blanco, who highlighted his commitment to access to employment for citizens and to improving working conditions. In that sense, he highlighted “the relentless work” of the Government to continue reducing the unemployment rate, “which is in figures never seen in decades”, and to continue advancing in rights for workers, “where reducing the working day to 37.5 hours a week is our next goal.”
Pedro Blanco recalled that the Government has as one of its maxims equal opportunities, “something that it demonstrates with facts”, such as the reform of article 49 of the Constitution or “the concrete actions that have a direct impact on the daily lives of people”, with the modification of the laws of Dependence and Disability at the head, presented this same February and that includes rights for people with disabilities in terms of housing, personal autonomy and assistance.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the long history of Cegasal, which is already close to 30 years of efforts “being a reference for all those who work for equal opportunities”. He claimed the social progress achieved since the association and highlighted the figure of José Luis Costoya, deserving of the special Cegasal award posthumously, from whom he highlighted “his legacy of struggle for labor integration and the fullness of rights, values that inspire the Government in every measure it takes”.
