The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, presided today the act of taking possession of the new colonel head of the Command of the Civil Guard of Pontevedra, Manuel Touceda. During the event, in which he was accompanied by the subdelegate in the province, Abel Losada, the delegate expressed his “total confidence” that the incorporation of Colonel Touceda will bring excellent results for the security of the province” and expressed the support “of both the Delegation and the Government Subdelegation to consolidate Pontevedra as a safe territory”.
“The Civil Guard changes with the times and Colonel Touceda represents that modernity and adaptation to the new needs of society,” said the delegate, who conveyed to the new colonel his best wishes in this new stage and stressed that “the successes of the Command will also be successes for the neighbors of Pontevedra.”
The new chief colonel, Manuel Touceda, has an “impeccable” trajectory of more than three decades in the Civil Guard. As Pedro Blanco stressed, he knows the province of Pontevedra “like the palm of his hand” and also the men and women of this command, “because it is from here”.
The delegate stressed that Touceda “arrives with very clear ideas” and firm commitments that will mark its stage at the head of the Command: Strengthen the fight against gender-based violence, combat cybercrime and strengthen the chain of command.
Pedro Blanco also acknowledged the work done by the former colonel, Simón Venzal, and by Lieutenant Colonel Óscar Grañas, who were in charge of the Command in recent months. The government delegate stressed that, thanks to the effort and dedication of the previous leaders, the Civil Guard managed to clarify more than 4,000 crimes in the last year, consolidating the province of Pontevedra as one of the safest in the country. “Pontevedra is 9 points below the national crime rate, despite the complexity of the territory, with a high population density, international border and three large ports, in addition to an airport,” said Blanco.
Finally, Pedro Blanco recalled that in recent months important operations were carried out against drug trafficking and highlighted the daily work in the protection of more than 500 women victims of gender violence in the province, thus strengthening the fight against this social scourge.
