The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the modernization of the Armed Forces and with a Defense policy that integrates security, innovation and economic development. He did so during a visit to the UROVESA facilities in Valga, where he valued the Government’s strategic collaboration with the Galician industrial sector, exemplified by the cooperation of the Ministry of Defense with Urovesa, an international reference company in the military technology and automotive sector.
Pedro Blanco, accompanied by the president of the company, Justo Sierra, by the deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, and by the mayor of Valga, José María Bello, stressed that Urovesa “represents the innovative and industrial capacity of Galicia, betting on the creation of cutting-edge technology and committing to talent and quality employment”. “Urovesa is a clear example of how Galicia leads strategic projects thanks to the determined support of the Government of Spain, which, through the Ministry of Defense, allocated more than 170 million euros in recent years for the manufacture of modern vehicles for the Spanish Army, among other projects,” said the delegate.
In addition, he stressed that the confidence of the Government of Pedro Sánchez in the Galician seal of Urovesa is reflected in other programs, such as the PERTE VEC that was beneficial and that drives the automotive sector in Pontevedra and throughout Galicia. “The collaboration with Urovesa consolidates our strategy of modernization of defence capabilities, while strengthening the industrial fabric and generating quality employment,” said Pedo Blanco.
For the government delegate “in an increasingly complex international scenario, the Government of Spain reaffirms its commitment to a defense policy that combines security with technological innovation and economic development.” “This type of partnership ensures the continuous improvement of our Armed Forces and contributes to the economic and industrial progress of our country,” he added.
The government delegate congratulated Urovesa, its president Justo Sierra and the entire professional team for their effort, dedication and contribution to strengthening national defence capabilities. “We are counting on you to continue responding to future challenges and maintain the position of Galicia as a reference in innovation and defense technology,” he concluded.
The visit also included the general head of the Maneuver Support Command, Marcial González; the head of the Military Arsenal of Ferrol, Gonzalo Villar; and the delegate of Defense in Galicia, Jesús Ángel Paz.
Contracts for over 170 million
During the visit to the facilities, the delegate supervised the different contracts of the Government of Spain with Urovesa, among which the manufacture of the tactical military vehicles Vamtac stands out, with an investment of 146 million euros for the supply of multipurpose vehicles to the three armies and to the contracting bodies of the Ministry of Defense.
Also relevant is the commitment to innovation with the launch of the Vamtac hydrogen project (Vamtah), with a contract of 700,000 euros to develop a functional prototype of vehicle with propulsion by means of a hydrogen cell, in collaboration with the National Hydrogen Center (CNH2).
In addition, the contract for the maintenance of the Vamtac fleet, worth 9 million euros, has recently been signed to ensure the commissioning of the Army’s tactical high-mobility vehicles for the next three years, as well as the contract of 7.4 million for the maintenance of Army trucks, among other investments.
