The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided today with the mayor of Arzúa, Xoan Xesús Carriles, the local Xunta of Security of the municipality, which this weekend hosts the traditional Festa do Queixo, a festivity in which the subdelegate invited to participate “but always respecting the security measures and the indications of the organization so that everything runs normally”.
María Rivas took the opportunity to congratulate the Concello for the consolidation of this festival as a reference throughout the province and in the rest of the community, as well as an inescapable date for people who like cheese. “They are 50 years of an event that coordinates tradition and modernity and that, once again, gives special prominence to women, not only for having Lucía Freitas as a speaker, but also for the tribute given to her by the Queixeiras women, who play the role of the poster, and for the incorporation as a novelty in this edition of a social gathering of women and cheese,” he said.
The deputy delegate and the mayor, accompanied by representatives of the Security Forces and Bodies and the Local Police, reviewed the security data of the municipality, “a safe city council, as evidenced by its crime rate (23.1 crimes per thousand inhabitants), which is 12.2 points below the average of Galicia, which is the third safest community in the State,” said Rivas, who also highlighted the fact that the Arzuana rate is less than half of the state average (50.6 points).
María Rivas indicated that these data are the result of the good work and collaboration of the Security Forces and Bodies and the Local Police, which encouraged them to continue strengthening. He also highlighted the good reception of the Master Plan for School Coexistence in the city council, in which 3 of the 4 schools in the municipality participated last year and in which a total of 18 activities were carried out in which 568 people participated, among students and teachers. They addressed topics such as school bullying, gender violence, drug and alcohol consumption or the use of new technologies.
Regarding the security mechanism by the Festa do Queixo, the subdelegate showed the complete collaboration of the Government Subdelegation so that during the 3 days of the celebration the presence of the Civil Guard and the Civil Traffic Guard will be strengthened, which together with the personnel of the post, the private security agents and members of Civil Protection, will work together to guarantee the security of this event.

The deputy delegate and the mayor of Arzúa also analyzed the data provided by the VioGén victim protection system in the province of A Coruña, which currently has 2,683 active cases of gender violence. “Behind each of these cases is a woman who is a priority for the government. All the work is little to guarantee their protection,” said Rivas, who stressed that collaboration and coordination by all institutions is indispensable in the fight against gender violence.
The deputy delegate stressed that Arzúa is one of the 52 councillors that has an Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence and, in this regard, took the opportunity to inform the mayor about all the possibilities offered by the VioGén victim protection system and encouraged the municipalities of the province with Local Police to join, as already they did in the province of A Coruña 27 municipalities, plus 8 that are in the process of inclusion.
The subdelegate recalled that the Concello de Arzúa received from 2018 the amount of 26,203.23€ in the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence for the development of activities for prevention and awareness in this matter. “All administrations and institutions must work hand in hand to make available to the victims all the necessary resources to help them get out of this situation and guarantee the right to a life without fear, to them and their families,” concluded Rivas.
