The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, presided this morning the institutional act that the Ourense Subdelegation organized to commemorate the 8M, International Women's Day. During the meeting, a manifesto was read, which included testimonies about habits and experiences that condition the mental health of women, verbalized by officials of the Subdelegation. It detailed the three main factors that explain why women are more vulnerable to mental health disorders; such as biological and hormonal factors; mental burden and double working hours; and violence and gender discrimination. The event was closed by the government’s deputy delegate, Eladio Santos, who began by pointing out who is questioning the celebration of Women’s Day because “it is questioning the fight for equality, from a male position. And we want our society to be hostile territory for machismo,” he said. In this line, he highlighted the commitment of the central government to consolidate Spain “as a feminist country”, emphasizing current public policies. “Women’s safety, the right to a life free from violence is a sine qua non condition for women to develop their vital projects and exercise their full citizenship,” she explained. In order to achieve this goal, Santos assured that the State will fight “against the #along with the reactionary of the far-right denier of equality. We will defend the advances achieved and the legislation promoted,” he said; reaching out to all feminist groups, other institutions and the whole society to achieve it. The institutional event was also attended by representatives of the City of Ourense, Civil Guard, National Police, agencies of the General Administration of the State and public officials. The head of the Violence against Women Unit, Alida Iglesias, was in charge of conducting the event, which featured the musical performance of the Coral de Ruada.
