The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, presented today a campaign on the occasion of the week of March 8 in collaboration with the Axel Association, accompanied by representatives of the same, as well as by the head of the Unit of Violence Against Women, María Luisa Castro. With this action, financed by the Subdelegation, boxes with a mirror inside them will be distributed among women throughout this week, with the aim of promoting self-concept and self-affirmation outside the external gaze, without the need for male approval.
During the event, Isabel Rodríguez highlighted the importance of this type of action within the framework of 8M: “We want every woman who opens this box to see her image reflected to remember that self-worth does not depend on anyone else, that liberation begins by divesting herself of the canon imposed by society.”
This allegory that alludes to Greek mythology with the “Pandora’s boxes” symbolizes the break with external impositions. Not its interior, the mirror represents the opportunity to look at oneself without filters or other judgments, remembering that the construction of the identity of women should not be conditioned by male approval. “The mirror was historically a tool of control over women. We want to re-signify it as a space for recognition and empowerment,” said AXEL representatives.
The campaign is fully funded by the Government Subdelegation in Lugo as part of its commitment to gender equality and the fight against male violence. “This 8M is a date to reflect on all that we are moving forward, but also on what remains to be done. From the administrations we must continue to support initiatives that contribute to making women feel free, safe and valued,” concluded Rodríguez.
