The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, took advantage today of the act of placing the banner that claims on March 8, International Women’s Day, on the balcony of the headquarters of the Subdelegation of the Government to claim the advances of the Government in labor and social matters “always with feminism and equality as transversal axes”.
In this regard, it noted measures such as the extension of paid paternity and maternity leave and the implementation of new leave to guarantee the care of minors in office by working people, but also other achievements that also have a woman’s name, such as the increase in the interprofessional minimum wage (61% since 2018), which leaves 60% of female beneficiaries; the increase in pensions, which increased the average remuneration of women by 45%, or the reduction by 6.8 points of the pay gap between men and women.
“They are policies that directly affect the quality of life of women, those that lead to more work, better contracts, better pensions and more possibilities for conciliation,” said the deputy delegate, who also highlighted the fact that for the first time the 10 million women employed in our country were exceeded, “a record figure since there are records.”
María Rivas, who pointed out that “unemployment, low pensions, precariousness and the burden of care have a woman’s face and, therefore, will continue to be central axes of action of this Government”, presided the act of placement of the commemorative banner of 8M, in which she was accompanied by the deputy secretary of the Government Delegation, Eva Vázquez Castelo, and the head of the Gender Violence Unit of the Subdelegation, Manuela Vilaboy, reported that the banner will be displayed on the balcony of the Subdelegation throughout the week “to defend the visibility of Spain”.
Commemorative programming
The subdelegate also said that the Government Delegation and the Subdelegation will carry out different activities to commemorate the 8M “that add to the daily work of the Government for equality, which is manifested in each and every one of its policies.” Among these activities, a training program on the new regulation of Foreigners with women as protagonists was highlighted, which already has about a hundred registered people and meetings with several groups of women.
This week, the subdelegate will participate in a meeting organized by the Civil Guard with schoolchildren in which different women from the armed institute will explain to the approximately 400 students attending the different functions they carry out in their daily lives and will also be in charge of inaugurating the ‘Women Referents Forum’ organized by the digital newspaper Quincemil, in addition to taking part in the event organized by the Government Delegation on March 7.
