The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, exemplified in the Concello de Láncara the impact of the government investments to extend the optical fiber in the rural areas of Galicia and definitively break with the digital divide that separates cities and parishes guaranteeing the total connectivity of the territory.
He did so on a recent visit to the east concello, where he oversaw, together with the mayor, Darío Piñeiro, the provincial deputy, Pablo Rivera and the deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, the progress of the digitization projects in Láncara, which will provide fiber optics to more than 1,200 families and companies in this municipality through the calls for the UNICO-Broadband Plan.
At the meeting held at the Casa del Concello, the mayor told the delegate about the progress of the connectivity projects in the municipality. In particular, they reviewed the project developed by the company ADAMO, which reached 87 population centers of the Concello and requires an investment of 900,000 euros.
Progress in territorial cohesion of Galicia
The UNICO-Broadband Plan of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Function is funded by the Government Recovery Plan and began to be implemented in 2021.
With it, the Government finances the projects and infrastructures required by the operating companies to reach areas where there was no such coverage and no provision for installation.
The Ministry brings up to 70% of the costs (technology, works, permits, etc.) to carry the high-speed connection while the operators provide the remaining amount of the investment.
During the meeting, the delegate pointed out that this program, which is already in the final phase of execution, is a very important step in the achievement of territorial cohesion in Galicia, by ensuring “that the Galician rural has access to the same technological services as the most populated areas”.
In the province of Lugo, the Government invests 26.8 million euros of the UNICO-Broadband Plan to bring this connectivity to 89,300 homes and companies in the province.
