The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, defended that economic progress must always be linked to the extension of social rights, “of which this government is synonymous”. Pedro Blanco participated in the opening of the XIV Congress of UGT Galicia, where he highlighted the action of the union to continue deepening in the improvement of the life of Galician workers, “an endeavour that he shares with the Government of Pedro Sánchez”.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the Government’s struggle for the major reforms it has been able to implement in recent years: “This is a government that leaves no one behind, and it demonstrated this during the pandemic, promoting the ERTES, or with its firm commitment to the reconciliation of personal and work life, not to mention the labor reform that improved the quality of life of so many workers fighting their precariousness or the consecutive and firm increases in the interprofessional minimum wage, which has a direct impact on the improvement of the daily life of thousands of Galicians and Galicians increasing their income by 61% in these years.”
The delegate made it clear that these were not isolated cases, that the government “will not lower its arms to achieve a better country, in which workers have rights and well-being”. For this, Pedro Blanco highlighted the action of the Government for the access of all citizens to a home, for the sustainable future of pensions or for the reduction of the working day to 37.5 hours a week, “and all while our economy gains day by day in competitiveness and strength, also advancing in the green transition and in digitalization”. In this sense, looking to the future, Pedro Blanco made it clear that the Government’s road map “is clear”, always in favor of economic growth and the consolidation of rights.
The delegate highlighted the role of the unions and, in particular, of UGT as fundamental actors to achieve these rights for citizenship, “making Galicia more prosperous and fair”. That is why he thanked José Antonio Gómez, outgoing general secretary of the organization in Galicia, for all his tireless effort and commitment “after 20 years of progress for Galician workers, making UGT a fundamental actor in the defense and obtaining of their rights”.
