The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, visited this morning the crisis center for victims of sexual violence located in the Point of Continuous Attention (PAC) of Concello Street, in Ourense. It is a specialized space, open 24 hours a day, that provides accompaniment and psychological care (face-to-face, online and telephone) to all victims and survivors who suffered sexual violence in the past or in the present, as well as their relatives and people around them. In no case is the filing of a complaint necessary to facilitate this attention. Among the staff of the Ourense crisis center are three psychologists, two social workers, a jurist and an administrative one. The implementation of these centers responds to the one established by the Council of Europe and developed by the Government of Spain, which allocates a total investment of 83 million euros, six of which were allocated to Galicia, for the opening of crisis centers. At the moment, our community has five, including the ourensano. “Sexual violence is a problem that must be tackled head-on, which often leads to gender violence, and therefore we must try to solve it by all means,” Santos said during the visit. In addition, the subdelegate focused on the need for all women in the province and its environment to know about their existence. “The Ministry of Equality of the Xunta de Galicia is responsible for its management, but it is necessary a work of dissemination and knowledge of these centers because their opening is recent and it is necessary to give it a boost,” he said. The visit was also attended by the General Director of the Fight against Gender Violence of the Xunta de Galicia, Roberto Barba; the territorial delegate of the Xunta in Ourense, Manuel Pardo; and the head of the Unit of Violence against Women of the Subdelegation of the Government, Alida Iglesias, among others.
