The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, congratulated today in Vigo the group of men and women who make up the National Police in Galicia for its 201th anniversary and thanked them for their contribution so that the Community consolidated its position as the third safest in Spain. This gratitude focused Pedro Blanco’s speech on the commemorative event held this morning at the headquarters of the Vigo-Redonda Police Station, in the city of Vigo, which was presided over by the delegate along with the mayor, Abel Caballero.
The celebration began on the outside of the building, where the delegate and the mayor discovered the plaque that names from today the square located in front of the police building as National Police Square. Pedro Blanco thanked Abel Caballero for this initiative, with which the police force becomes part of the street of this city, strengthening its ties with the citizens of Vigo.
In his speech, the delegate put this act as a finishing touch to the extensive programming with which the National Police Corps commemorated its bicentenary: “Two hundred years of history that we celebrated throughout these twelve months in different forums and public events with which the National Police strengthened its image as a protector of rights and freedoms.”
Pedro Blanco meant the daily work and services to the citizens of Galicia provided by the 3,400 men and women of the National Police assigned in the Community. A work “of the highest professionalism” both at the operational level and in promoting the culture of prevention, providing tools to the population, companies and institutions to strengthen security in all areas. About it, the delegate recalled that “it is a fortress, a treasure, that we owe, to a large extent, to all the security forces.”
The event was attended by the subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, and the Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, Pedro Pacheco, among other authorities.
The celebration was completed with the recognition of retired police officers in the year 2024 in this Local Police Station and with the tribute to the members of the Security Corps and Forces who died in the act of service.
