Burela (Lugo), January 3, 2025.- The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today in Burela the collaboration of the municipalities so that migrants achieve full inclusion in the Community. He did so during a visit to the Burelés reception center, together with the mayor, Carmela López, to get to know first-hand the needs of the people who live there and the professionals of the NGO Rescue who serve them.
Pedro Blanco thanked both the councilor and the humanitarian staff for their response, “equal to a humanitarian emergency like the one in Spain, which allows us to be proud when we see that we live in a welcoming country full of empathy”. The delegate went to Burela, as he had done before in Valga and Santiago de Compostela, among other host municipalities, to monitor the correct situation of these people.
“The reception of migrants would not be possible without close institutional collaboration,” said the delegate, who stressed the important work carried out by both the different Galician reception municipalities and the Xunta de Galicia. “Working together, all administrations provide opportunities to achieve a prosperous future for migrants who arrive in Galicia, guaranteeing their social inclusion,” said the delegate.
He also recalled that most of these people flee from the existing wars with their countries of origin or from the changes in the climate that make life on their lands difficult. “With examples such as Burela, it is clear that Galicia and the whole of Spain, as a welcoming and integrating country, are responding through their different institutions,” said Pedro Blanco from the Mariñao reception center.
Centres such as Burela aim to provide urgent and primary accommodation, maintenance and psychosocial assistance, as well as other social services aimed at facilitating coexistence and integrating migrants into the community.
Continuing to work for social integration
The stay in Burela and the rest of Galicia of migrants under the coordination of the different non-governmental organizations takes place on a temporary basis, in the months in which their administrative situation is resolved. In this way, people temporarily housed in Burela arriving from the Canary Islands will leave the reception centers as they can work and move around the territory freely, with their documentation in order.
Since migrants arrive in the Canary Islands, specialized professionals develop for them a complete itinerary second their needs, resources, training etc. Already in the reception centers of the peninsula, a more complete profile of each person is made to facilitate their social and labor integration. Once they have arrived at the place of refuge in the dysfunctional autonomous communities, this itinerary is completed and the personal evolution and degree of autonomy acquired are monitored. At the same time, it is ensured that these people receive education and training second their needs and skills #particular
