The deputy delegate of the Government, Abel Losada, visited A Illa de Arousa, where, accompanied by the mayor, Luis Arosa, visited the two lands that the City Council is about to acquire to the National Plan on Drugs in the avenue of A Ponte and in the mount of O Outeiro, with an area of about 3,000 square meters each and valued jointly at 361,000 euros. The two plots, which will be dedicated to the construction of a block of about 70 social housing units and a public park, were owned by the drug trafficker Marcial Dorado.
Abel Losada affirmed that the recovery for the people of A Illa de Arousa of these two properties “is not only an act of social justice, but, above all, an act of poetic justice, because I cannot think of a better end for two properties confiscated by the State from Marcial Dorado than the construction of homes for the people who need it most and the opening of a public park.” At the same time, he claimed the role of the municipalities as direct drivers of the construction of social housing, for which he guaranteed the collaboration of the Government of Spain.
The deputy delegate of the Government recalled that Marcial Dorado “is a well-known drug trafficker that we all knew well in Galicia and that, in his day, he had a travel companion who later became president of the Xunta and that what he did for 14 years was a real sit-down in everything that has to do with public housing policies.”
Finally, he highlighted the ability of Luis Arosa to work to reach a new agreement with the National Plan on Drugs so that these two properties can be transferred to municipal ownership, that is, to the public service, instead of being auctioned to the highest bidder. Therefore, he offered all the help of the Subdelegation of the Government so that the City Council ends the objectives pursued. He announced efforts already with the public business entity SEPES, attached to the Ministry of Housing. “All of Galicia and all of Spain must know that the public housing building that I know here sees construction and that the public park of Mount O Outeiro came from the illegal heritage of Mr. Marcial Dorado.” In this regard, the Mayor of the Island recalled that he has already sent three letters to the Ministry of Housing, of the Xunta de Galicia, without receiving an answer. Thus, he thanked the SEPES for the advice for the acquisition of the plot of the avenue de la Ponte.
Luis Arosa said that we are “on a holiday”, because the City Council of the Illa de Arousa can announce the purchase of two other plots to the National Plan on Drugs, which are in addition to the one already acquired in the Tiesto area, where the sports pavilion is planned. Regarding the plot of the Avenue de la Ponte, he explained that the Urbanism Plan to Illa de Arousa “could not fall into urban speculation, since it is a very attractive plot having a low, two walk and under cover buildability, that is to say the maximum allowed on the Island”. He stressed that it will be a great help to fix population in a municipality that, due to its characteristics, has very little buildable land.”
