The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, highlighted in Ferrol the importance of collaboration between institutions in the fight against any form of violence against women. He did so during the inauguration of the 24-hour Crisis Center in Ferrol, located in the Professor Novoa Santos Hospital in this town.
No event, in which the mayor of Ferrol, José Manuel Rey, and the councillor for Territorial Policy, Fabiola García, also participated, the subdelegate of the Government reported that the 24H Crisis Center of Ferrol, which began operating this Friday, is possible thanks to the commitment of the Government with this fight, “a commitment that materializes in an investment of 6 million euros through the Recovery Plan to put these centers in the Community in operation in Galicia.”
María Rivas explained that these centers are designed so that victims have permanent care at their disposal so that, in case of any aggression, they receive urgent assistance, both psychological, legal and social, “for them and also for the people around them,” said the subdelegate. “This action is another example of the Government’s commitment to increase and improve the services provided to women victims of sexual crimes, just as we do with victims of male violence, with more than 84 million euros invested since 2018 in Galicia,” said the subdelegate, who recalled that so far this year five women were killed in Galicia for gender violence, “crimes that we cannot and do not want to tolerate,” she added.
That is why he stressed the importance of collaboration between the Xunta, the Government and the municipalities “to fight together against any form of violence against women, because only then can we end this terrible reality,” he said.
The deputy delegate took the opportunity to highlight the launch of the center and to congratulate herself on the collaboration between institutions “to provide such an important service for women as care for victims.” In addition, he recalled that the Government is going to relax the execution deadlines and justification of the aid for the implementation of these centers until June 2, 2025, an agreement that will be ratified at the Extraordinary Sectoral Conference next Monday, December 23.
