The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, expressed today the condolences and all her support to the family and acquaintances of Rejane Sonar, murdered yesterday in Viveiro in a new case confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. During the act of revulsion called to her memory, the subdelegate highlighted the deep shock that this crime caused throughout the province of Lugo and stressed the importance of maintaining unity in the face of this sequel. Isabel Rodríguez presided over this event accompanied by different local authorities, members of the Security Forces and Corps and personnel of the Subdelegation.
“Male violence remains a structural challenge that affects us directly and closely. As a democratic society, we cannot tolerate women continuing to live in fear. It is essential to leave behind any kind of negationism and act firmly and cohesively to eradicate this violence,” said the deputy delegate.
Rodríguez recalled that, with this murder, there are already 46 women killed in 2024 in the hands of their partners or exparellas, leaving 35 minors orphaned. In addition, so far this year, nine boys and girls were killed by their parents or their mothers’ partners in acts of vicarious violence. Since 2003, male violence has claimed the lives of 1,291 women in Spain.
The Government reaffirms its absolute commitment to policies of prevention and protection against gender-based violence, calling for the involvement of all institutions and citizens. “The fight against male violence is a common cause that transcends political or ideological differences. Only together can we put an end to this horror,” concluded Isabel Rodríguez.
The event ended with a minute of silence in memory of Rejane Sonar, as a sign of respect and solidarity towards his family and being loved.
