The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today congratulated the members of the joint team of Civil Guard and Customs Surveillance for the last blow to drug trafficking in Galicia, in which about 230 kilos of cocaine were seized inside a merchant ship docked in the Outer Port of Punta Langosteira (Arteixo-A Coruña).
Pedro Blanco took stock of the result of this operation, which he described as “a new success of the State security forces and bodies”, and which “prevents the introduction of a significant amount of drugs in Europe and Spain”, at a press conference held at the facilities of the Civil Guard Command in Lonzas, A Coruña. There he was accompanied by the deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas; the chief general of the 15 Zone of the Civil Guard, Miguel Angel González; the chief colonel of the Command of A Coruña, Fernando Pedreira, the head of the Regional Customs and Excise Unit of Galicia, Jaime Gayá, and the head of regional area of the Customs Surveillance Service, Fernando Iglesias.
The joint operation of the Civil Guard and the DAVA was the result of surveillance carried out on boats coming from areas considered “hot” in terms of drug trafficking. In this case, the ship, named Enery Glory, came from Brazil and has a Panamanian flag. The crew, including the captain, is of Philippine nationality.
The ship docked at the Puero Exterior of Punta Langosteira on Saturday, at 23.45 hours making a stopover to Huelva, without declaring the final destination. On board it transports 25,000 tons of flour. At 1:00 p.m. yesterday, Sunday, a GEAS team located 8 bales in the stern cooling duct, containing 229 packs of 1 kg of cocaine each.
After this seizure, the Security Forces are already carrying out investigations to discover and dismantle the organization behind this transport.
