The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the work of groups such as the Galician Association San Francisco-AGASFRA, which works with people with disabilities, in promoting equal rights and opportunities. Accompanied by the deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, and the councilor for Social Policy of the City of Vigo, Yolanda Aguiar, the delegate visited the facilities that AGASFRA has in Vigo on the occasion of the International Day of People with Disabilities, which is celebrated this December 3. There they were received by Eladio Fernández, president of the association, along with other members of the directive, with whom they toured the headquarters and transferred the current work initiatives to them.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the shared commitment that associations such as AGASFRA have with the Government of Spain, “in their work to leave no one behind and promote a world without barriers, in which all of us have the springs and capacities to achieve our goals.”
The delegate reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to people with disabilities, which is manifested in concrete actions such as promoting the amendment of Article 49 of the Constitution at the beginning of this 2024. “It was a historical reparation and paid a moral debt to these people,” said Pedro Blanco, who called for continued work on policies such as this one, “transcendent in the daily life of the citizenry.”
Article 49 of the Constitution establishes effective and real freedom and equality, as well as guaranteeing public policies focused on the full autonomy of persons with disabilities and their social inclusion. In this regard, Pedro Blanco highlighted the policies carried out by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, “with the constant reference of our Constitution, promoting equal opportunities for all people and advocating for the commitment of companies to universal accessibility.”
Pedro Blanco congratulated the president, workers and families of AGASFRA for their daily involvement, “an example of the inclusion that we defend from the Government of Spain”.
