The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the contribution of Megasa in the consolidation of the region of Ferrol as one of the industrial engines of Galicia. It did so at the event organized by the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Ferrolterra, Eume and Ortegal (Cofer) in which the ‘Business Award’ was presented to the firm founded by the Freire family.
The delegate pointed out that this strong industrial component “is already an indissoluble part of the identity of these regions” which, “like metal, resist despite the blows and do not decompose”. This respect indicated that industrial activity in these territories is re-emerging from the budgets and funds of the Government’s Recovery Plan, which leave more than 5,000 million euros in investments, “those that make it the region that receives the most funds from Galicia”.
Among those investments, he pointed out the more than 4.5 billion euros of the construction program of the F-110 frigates for the Navy in Navantia “where the stands are at full performance and with the peace of mind of knowing that there is a workload for years”; the railway connection with the external port of Caneliñas or the humanization of Avenida de las Pías, “projects that serve to improve the competitiveness of companies and also to improve people’s lives,” said the delegate.
Pedro Blanco took the opportunity to highlight that 80% of the beneficiaries of the 5.3 billion euros committed in investments in Galicia through the Recovery Plan are companies, “from SMEs to large firms such as Megasa” of which, he said, “is not only one of the large companies in this region but an example of effort and perseverance of the Freire family to transform a ferralla warehouse into an Iberian giant that today employs more than a thousand people in its plants in Spain and Portugal”.
These companies, he added, “know that they have in the Government of Spain their best ally.” For this reason, he encouraged “not to leave the unique opportunity that the funds of the Recovery Plan represent” to digitize companies, improve processes or reduce the environmental footprint in order to transform our economy.
“Megasa has already started that path; a path that I encourage him to continue with that good work that characterizes him, which makes him a reference in his sector outside our borders and of which we Galicians and Galicians are very proud,” he concluded.
