The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today claimed to extend the commemoration of November 25 to every day of the year to intensify in society awareness and common involvement in the fight against gender violence. It did so during the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which took place in the Government Delegation, in A Coruña.
The event began with a protest action in which the embroidered cloths were placed on panels in the workshop ‘Embroidery against Violence’, directed by the illustrator Bea Lema. These cloths collect the names of the women murdered this year in Spain and other feminist slogans. The panels will remain on display in the Delegation hall during these days.
Institutional statement
Pedro Blanco gave way to the reading of the Institutional Declaration approved by the Government in the Council of Ministers and which was distributed among ten speakers: the mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey; the provincial deputy and mayor of Vimianzo, Mónica Rodríguez; the president of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of A Coruña, María Luisa Varela; the representative of the Galician Feminist Platform, María Vázquez; the head of the Unit of Violence against the Woman of the Government, María de la Coruña.
After reading the statement, the Government’s deputy delegate invited the attendees to observe a minute’s silence that they broke with applause in support of all women who suffer any violence and of encouragement to whom they help and protect them.
The event was also attended by the delegate of Defense in Galicia, the Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, the Lieutenant Colonel Chief of the A Coruña Command of the Civil Guard, responsible for different organs of the State Administration in Galicia, public employees and representatives of feminist groups and citizen associations.
Program 25N
Today’s protest action served to close the program designed by the Government Delegation in Galicia this year to commemorate the 25N and that put the tilde in the education of youth and in the contribution of culture against machismo. During these weeks, activities were held in the four provinces to address, from different perspectives, the prevention of gender violence, the care of victims of this scourge and the training of people who attend to this phenomenon.
Among them, in Lugo a perfo-poetic recital was held that gave voice to the Galician writers for equality and against machismo and promoted in different educational centers of Galicia the experience “Regueifando en igualdade”; the Pazo de Mariñán hosted the annual day of formation of Security Bodies and Forces, and in Vigo remains open, in the Plaza del Rei, the exhibition “Amigo Dáte Conta”, to sensitize young people against machista behaviors in adolescent couples. In Ourense, the Subdelegation in this province organized several self-defense courses for women victims of male violence.
The central event was held last Friday in A Coruña with the delivery of the Meninas de Galicia recognitions, in its seventh edition, distinguishing Galician people and entities that stood out this last year in the fight against gender violence and in the protection of women who suffer any type of violence.
