The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, presided this morning the meeting of the Provincial Coordination Commission for Road Safety in Extreme Weather Situations, for the 2024/2025 campaign.
In the meeting accompanied Santos, the Secretary General of the Subdelegation, Manuel Arias; the territorial delegate of the Xunta in Ourense, Manuel Pardo; the Head of the Emergency Service, Olivier Reboredo; the Commander of the Civil Guard, Rodrigo García de la Rosa; the Deputy Head of the Traffic Subsector, Javier Barja; the Head of the State Roads Unit, Álvaro Rodríguez; the Provincial Head of Traffic, David Llorente; the Secretary General of the Police Department, José Cruz
All the agencies and institutions represented at the meeting, essential to ensure mobility during the winter on the Ourense roads, stressed the importance of collaboration between the administrations. In this sense, the different institutions involved in the matter were aware of the functions of each of them in extreme weather situations. “Coordination among all is essential to avoid incidents on the roads,” said the deputy delegate.
In addition, Eladio Santos explained that the device available for the more than 500 km of state roads in the province this winter has 23 snowploughs, 18 conventional snowploughing trucks, 5 brine spreaders and 110,000 liters of brine.
The provincial head of Traffic, David Llorente, also stressed the importance of the surveillance of the roads, carried out by the DGT through 18 cameras present on the roads of the province and the information provided by the seven meteorological stations. Along the same lines, during the meeting, the importance of keeping the citizens informed, through the municipalities, direct communications or the media, was also emphasized.

Finally, in relation to the critical points of the area of La Canda and Padornelo, the technician of the Civil Protection Unit of the Subdelegation of Zamora, José Luis Prieto, showed the availability of resources of his province and bet on the “coordination between institutions and the optimization of resources”.
