The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the work developed by the government in order to promote the consumption of fish with Galician origin among children throughout Spain. Pedro Blanco participated in the presentation of the ‘Superpeixiño’ campaign in A Coruña, carried out by Opromar (Organization of Fishing Producers do Porto e Ría de Marín) with funding from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. It took place at the Salesianos A Coruña school, where they accompanied the delegate Francisco Teijeira, secretary of Opromar, and Pilar Sanjurjo, director of the center.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the importance of campaigns like this to boost fish consumption among children throughout Spain, to which this project is directed. “This type of action shows the little ones that fish is a rich and more than appetizing product, as well as a source of vitamins and proteins vital for their healthy growth,” said the delegate.
The depth of these promotional initiatives is profound, reaching the entire Galician fishing sector and dynamizing it, “allowing it to remain one of the economic engines of Spain”. Pedro Blanco stressed the importance of this, “because working on the dynamization of the fishing sector also means betting on the fishmongers of each and every one of the villages in our territory or the canning industry, so promoting fishing means promoting Galicia, and this Government does it”.
The ‘Superpeixiño’ campaign
The delegate thanked Opromar for its defense of Galician fishing, an action coordinated and supported by the Government of Spain. “Actions such as the one carried out today in this school and will transfer the other centers are the basis of the future of this industry, key in Galicia,” said Pedro Blanco.
The ‘Superpeixiño’ campaign contributes to children’s consumption of fish in a fun and attractive way for them. During the activity, Galician cod and hake rations are served in the school canteen. The project is carried out in educational centers in Galicia, the Basque Country and Madrid, with the expectation that it will also be implemented in other autonomous communities.
