The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today in Ourense the commitment of the Government of Spain for the green transition in small concellos and rural environments and exemplified this commitment in the support of 2 million euros that is destined for the development of the forest bioeconomy project in Nogueira de Ramuín.
Pedro Blanco participated this morning in the presentation of this innovative project of forest harvesting, which is funded by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge through the Biodiversity Foundation and which is part of the Recovery Plan. In this presentation also participated the mayor of Nogueira de Ramuín, Julio Temes, and the director of the Galician Forestry Industry Agency (XERA), Jacobo Aboal, in addition to the subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos.
Pedro Blanco stressed the importance of this type of projects, since they are “experiences that can be #replicated in other points of Galicia and Spain to move towards sustainability throughout the territory,” said the delegate, who stressed the “added strength” of this plan as it is the result of collaboration between different administrations and entities, in this case the City of Nogueira de Ramuín, the Forestry Research Center of Lourizán and the Association of Rural Mowers Echoes da Moura. The delegate congratulated the Concello for leading this project, “where its mayor, Julio Temes, saw the opportunity for the future for his citizens.”
The almost two million euros with which the Government supports this plan will serve for the conservation of the ecosystem of Monte da Moura and the consolidation of rural female employment, but also to move towards respect for the environment and the sustainable use of forest resources: “This project is a good example of how this government is working to build a vibrant rural area full of opportunities.” And he signalled the impetus that this policy received from the Recovery Plan in recent years “to carry out a green transition that guarantees a sustainable future in rural areas, fixing population and boosting their economy.”
Climate change commitment
The delegate recalled the importance of developing actions that allow the management of resources in a context of climate change: “We are fully aware of the challenge for our country to face and mitigate climate change, and that is why we have been betting for years on a green transition that guarantees the future and sustainability of our rural. The project presented today by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge in Nogueira de Ramuín is a good example of this policy, as it delves into a sustainable economy and in accordance with nature.”
