The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, put the Concello de Monforte as an example of cooperation between administrations to strengthen security, coexistence and improve people’s lives. He did so during a visit to the works of the new Police Station of the town in which he was accompanied by the Monfortino mayor, José Tomé; the subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez; the Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, Pedro Pacheco; the Chief Commissioner in Lugo, José Luis Romera, and the accidental head of the Police in Monforte, Celso Dacal.
The delegate supervised the state of the works being carried out in the building, in which the Ministry of the Interior is investing 3.8 million euros and which will allow to increase the benefits and quality of public services, both for the approximately 60 agents working in it and for the almost 20,000 inhabitants it serves.
Pedro Blanco affirmed that the work shows the commitment and effort of the Government, through the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, with the security of the Galicians and the Galicians, “while providing the professionals of the National Police with the best equipment and means, as we will also do in Lugo with the new Commissariat and as we have been doing throughout the territory.”
The works consist of the adaptation of the building of the old Relief House to house the police units in the town “and turn it into a modern and avant-garde building, which bets on sustainability, energy efficiency and accessibility,” said Pedro Blanco, who also influenced the savings that will result from having a property owned and not rented, as until now.
“With this infrastructure, and thanks to the agility of the Ministry when starting the works, we respond to an old demand of the monfortins. A demand that would not be reality without the involvement of the mayor and the collaboration of the Concello, giving free of charge the land and the building to build this endowment,” said the delegate.
The objective, he said, is “to consolidate Lugo and Galicia as one of the safest territories in the country, a path in which the security forces and bodies have the support and defense of the Government of Spain, because the commitment to security is the commitment to progress and the improvement of society,” he concluded.
State of the works
The works of rehabilitation of the property, located on the Avenida de Galicia and with a built area of 1.822 m2 on a plot of 2.282 m2, are currently focused on the lifting of the lower floor, where the shooting gallery will be located. The actions contemplated by the awarding company, Ogmios, are the following:
Floor Soto.- Two clearly differentiated areas will be located on this floor, a detention area, located in the existing basement space around the inner courtyard No. 2 and a Shooting Gallery, projected in a new area inside the plot and whose roof will be used as an outdoor parking area.
Ground Floor.- On this floor will be located the Public Attention Offices (issuance of DNI-passport, office of complaints and attention to the citizen) and the Citizen Security Group.
First Floor.- The most private areas of the police station will be collected on this floor: Police Headquarters; Local Task Force; Local Information Group (SITEL); Local Scientific Police Group; and locker rooms, as well as male and female toilets.
Ground Floor Covered.- This area includes the most private uses of the new police station, such as housing and technical rooms.
The reform also includes the installation in the interior courtyard No. 2 of a new staircase, which will communicate the basement, lower and first floors, resolving the evacuation in case of fires, and an elevator, which will communicate all the floors of the building, allowing to resolve the accessibility of the same.
Finally, the project contemplates the urbanization of the parking area, located on the roof of the shooting gallery.
