The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, participated this Friday in Sada in a round table organized by the Menéndez Pelayo International University in the framework of the conference ‘Mearas: History of a recovery’, in which he put the return of ownership of the pazo to the State as an example of the Government’s commitment to the restoration of democratic memory.
María Rivas, who took the opportunity to celebrate the last judicial decision, which also attributes to the State much of the property that was found in the property, trusted that this will be a turning point to move forward in the search among all the institutions involved - Government, Junta, Diputación and the municipalities of Sada and A Coruña - the most appropriate uses for this Good of Cultural Interest.
In her speech, the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña highlighted the fact that the Government of Pedro Sánchez decided to raise the Democratic Memory to the rank of Ministry, first with Carmen Calvo and currently with Minister Ángel Víctor Torres, whom María Rivas thanked for her commitment to restore property and restore the memory of the victims of the dictatorship and Franco’s regime through initiatives such as the Democratic Memory Act or exhumations and censuses of victims of the dictatorship and Franco’s regime.
María Rivas also highlighted the uniqueness of the process of recovery of the pazo, in which the Government worked hand in hand with the memorialist entities, to which she also thanked their “indispensable” contribution, both in the previous works and our technical committees, for the restitution of the property to the State.
In the same vein, he highlighted the fact that the first visit to the Pazo de Mevas organized by democratic institutions and not by the Franco Foundation was that of the relatives of victims of Franco’s regime, among whom were the daughter and grandson of Alexandre Bóveda or the son of Isaac Díaz Pardo and a member of Camilo Díaz Baliño, “a milestone of special symbolism that shows the sensitivity of this government.”
The Government’s deputy delegate in A Coruña also acknowledged the work of the committee of experts, “crucial in the process of the pazo’s claim and worthy of deep gratitude.” “The importance of all these actions is that the pazo is once again a citizen and we are going to continue working,” he concluded.
