The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today highlighted the expansion of the private security sector in the province of A Coruña, which today has 5,112 people accredited for these tasks in the province, 886 security professionals more respect to the previous year (21% more). The subdelegate advanced these figures at the meeting of the Provincial Mixed Commission on Private Security, which she chaired at the headquarters of the Government Delegation.
According to data provided by the Security Corps and Forces, in October of this year there were 4,646 security guards, 207 rural guards, 110 explosive guards, 73 private escorts and 40 private detectives, among other professionals. They serve in 49 companies with headquarters or delegation in the province. In addition, 121 companies are related to private security in different terms in the province, including detective offices, training centers, transportation of explosives, etc.
As of today, according to the Government’s deputy delegate, the number of establishments required by current regulations to have security measures in the province amounts to 1,814, of which 624 are banking entities; 263, jewelry stores and establishments dedicated to the purchase and sale of gold; 261, are service stations, and 549, pharmacies; 107, lottery administrations in addition to art galleries and gambling establishments.
The National Police Force, through the Territorial Private Security Unit of A Coruña and the local units of Santiago and Ferrol, is responsible in the province for the control, supervision and advice of all private security companies (the exception of field guards, which are the competence of the Civil Guard), installation and maintenance companies, alarm receiving power stations, security companies, private detectives etc. They also carry out surveillance against intrusion into this activity. In the last three years, it carried out six inspections in companies offering this type of service, five of which resulted in complaints.
It also checks the suitability of the measures used by the establishments are obliged to count by law. In the last three years, the National Police carried out more than 2,500 inspections in the province of A Coruña to verify these measures.
Joint Commission on Private Security of the province of A Coruña
The Joint Commission on Private Security of A Coruña aims to promote in the province the coordination between the private security sector and the State Security Forces and Corps. Police and Civil Guard officers and representatives of establishments required by law to have security measures (banking institutions, jewelry stores, service stations, etc.), as well as companies and personnel from the sector are present.
The meeting this morning, together with the subdelegate, was attended by the Deputy Secretary General of the Government Delegation, Eva Vázquez; the provincial commissioner of the National Police Force, Carlos Gómez and the head of the Territorial Unit of Private Security of the CNP, Simón Fernández, as well as Colonel Fernando Pedreira, of the Command of the Civil Guard of A Coruña, and representatives of the associations of private security companies, companies affected by the law, city councils and trade unions.
