The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today highlighted the government’s impulse with the transformation and development of the Galician concellos of the demographic challenge through the funds of the Recovery Plan. He assured this during a visit to the Concello de Baralla, which obtained one of the grants of the DUS5000 program, managed by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
Accompanied by the mayor, Miguel González, and by the deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, the delegate announced the investment of 2,8M€ for the project of pedestrian and cyclist connection that will unite the populations of the Val del Río Neira and Pousada with the urban center. “This action, which will be tendered in the coming weeks, will significantly improve the communication, security and accessibility of the municipality, in addition to connecting with the Roteiro do Dubio, a tourist attraction that will allow to highlight the extraordinary natural heritage and promote sustainable mobility,” explained the delegate, stressing that “Baralla is the example of the transformation that we promote in the Galician concellos with the Recovery Plan.”
Pedro Blanco also highlighted the positive impact that the project will have, “contributing to boost local tourism and allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and all the cultural wealth in a respectful way with the environment”. In this line, he stressed the importance of collaboration between administrations “with a fundamental role of the Government of Spain as an ally of the concellos in improving the quality of life of the neighbors, taking full advantage of the potential of each territory.” This joint effort reinforces the Government’s commitment to small municipalities, as is the case of Baralla, which has less than 2,5000 inhabitants, with the aim of building a Galicia that grows, corrects inequalities and creates opportunities throughout its territory.”
Pedestrian connection project
The projected works consist of the creation of a continuous pedestrian itinerary of more than 5 kilometers along the urban stretch, which can run along one or both margins of the road, but which in any case will be of exclusive pedestrian use creating an accessible and safe path. Prior works of demolition, clearing and movement of land will be carried out, to later undertake the formation of the base of the path, its paving, the execution of retaining walls, the definition of a underground drainage network, as well as the corresponding horizontal and vertical signage.
The creation of this pedestrian itinerary of access to the urban center of Baralla will mean a reduction of annual energy consumption from 68,775 kW to 24,477 kW, achieving an estimated energy saving of 64%, within the framework of the aid obtained for investments to unique local projects of clean energy in municipalities of demographic challenge (DUS 5000 PROGRAM), within the Program of Regeneration and Demographic Challenge of the Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience.
