This initiative aims to promote equality and raise awareness of the need to continue advancing in the fight against male violence, and with this new installment in Camariñas the MAVI has already stressed in 11 municipalities and 2 entities of the province of A Coruña.
The deputy delegate was received at the Museo del Encaja by the mayor of Camariñas, Sandra Insua, and the councilors Begoña Tajes, Encarna Liñeiro and Sergio Caamaño.

The suitcase will be held for three months in the town hall and, together with the entities and educational centers that participated in the event, will contribute to reinforce the activities programmed by the town hall on the occasion of November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
María Rivas, pointed out the municipalist nature of this initiative, stressing that it is fundamental to the collaboration and involvement of the municipalities for the success of the same. “It is the municipalities, especially in rural areas, that can organize reading animation activities to make available to the neighborhood the books that each suitcase incorporates, while using them to raise awareness about the value of equality.”
There are 5 objectives of the MAVI: to promote reading as a tool for equality; to bring the neighborhood closer to reading about equality; to promote critical thinking about gender roles and stereotypes; to raise awareness about gender violence; and to encourage society to have female references in the field of culture.
The suitcase will remain in Dodro for up to three months, and contains a total of 15 titles. So there are 5 child-youth reading titles such as “Is there anything more boring than being a pink princess” by Raquel Díaz Regueira, or “Tales for good nights for rebellious girls” by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo. It also contains 10 books for adults such as ‘Lies to Be a Real Woman. Manual for beginners’ by Rocío Salazar and ‘Those days when I was bad’ by Inma López Silva.
The latest addition to the MAVI is a collection of drawings donated by Rosa de Cabanas entitled “Brave Women”, drawings of well-known and also anonymous women, protagonists of different historical moments. Women referents: writers, painters, scientists, architects, sculptors, costureiras, teachers, activists who were silenced on many occasions.
The subdelegate of the Government stressed that the activities that take place around 25 N are fundamental to promote a more egalitarian society and free of gender violence. In this sense, “the travelling suitcase is a small contribution to offer the neighbors and neighbors of Camariñas information and training in equality and thus work actively to achieve a more just and egalitarian society”.
The subdelegate recalled that since 2018 Camariñas received a total of 23,266.56 euros from the State Pact for the realization of awareness and awareness activities that contribute to a society free of male violence, in fact 10,920.33 were awarded in the last award that involved the transfer to the 93 municipalities of the province of more than 760,000 euros.
