The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, fired this morning the 196 members of the National Police contingent who left Galicia to integrate into the aid and recovery system of the areas affected by DANA in Valencia. The approximately 200 male and female police officers are part of the Police Intervention Units (UIP) of A Coruña and Vigo and, together with the 41 police vehicles they use, will be incorporated in the next few hours into the operation of security, rescue and care for the people affected by this tragedy.
Pedro Blanco went to the police facilities of Lonzas, in A Coruña, to greet the officers before they set out on the road, along with the Government’s deputy delegate in A Coruña, María Rivas; the Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, Pedro Jesús Pacheco, and the provincial commissioner of A Coruña, Carlos Gómez.
The delegate reiterated that the Government has all the resources of the State available “where and when they are required” in the face of this catastrophe. And he recalled that the Ministry of the Interior addresses the largest police deployment in history to intervene in the rescue and recovery efforts of the areas affected by the intense rains that on October 29 caused major floods and overflows in the Valencian Community and in other nearby communities. He also expressed gratitude for the solidarity response of the citizens and institutions of Galicia in the face of the serious consequences of this tragedy.
The contingent that is now moving to Valencia adds to the 35 Civil Guard troops that left from Galicia this past Sunday to reinforce the security operation in the affected areas.
