The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the government’s action on the Ourense railway, consolidating itself as a transport hub in Spain with more than 625 million euros invested. Pedro Blanco today supervised the start of the refurbishment works of the San Francisco Station to house the new Traffic Regulation Center (CRC). The delegate was accompanied by the mayor of the city, Gonzalo Pérez Jácome; the deputy delegate of the Government in the province, Eladio Santos, and the deputy director of the Northwest Network of Adif, Abel Rajo.
Pedro Blanco highlighted that the work combines the recovery of the Galician railway heritage with state-of-the-art technology to centralize the management of the Galician lines and respond to the increase in traffic, so that “a historic building like this is going to operate again at the forefront of the highest performance at the Galician level”. The future CRC will replace and expand the existing railway management center located in the Ourense Station.
“The Government of Spain demonstrates with facts and investment its commitment to the Galician train and to the province and city of Ourense, converted into a great railway node with more than 625 M€ from the Government,” added the delegate. Specifically, the renovation of the San Francisco station and the complete installation of the CRC systems are estimated at 14.5 million euros, while other works such as the city variant reaches 500 million euros or the intermodal station amounts to 112 million euros.
Management of more than 1,150 km of lines
The future CRC will manage the circulation of trains along 1,151 km of lines in Galicia, taking over the high-speed Ourense–Santiago sections and the Ferrol-Ribadeo metric width line. It will therefore be a multi-network center, since it will manage the three metric widths that currently exist in Spain.
In the building of the old station a complete refurbishment of the structures, roofs, facades and accesses will be carried out, as well as a restoration of all those decorative architectural elements that require it. A new access independent of the use of the platform of the high-speed line will be enabled, from Calle Serra de Queixa, incorporating the necessary parking spaces for the users of the building.
The performance of the new will be completed with the renovation of CTC equipment, the installation of a Videowall, operating consoles, equipment and the transfer of the existing energy remote control at the Ourense Splicing Station.
