The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted “dialogue, coexistence and respect” as the key tools used by the government to promote offshore wind in Galicia. Pedro Blanco reiterated these commitments of the Executive at the closing of the 7th Galician Offshore International Hub, held in Ferrol, which was attended by Justo Sierra, president of ASIME.
Pedro Blanco pointed out as the best example of the attitude of the Government, through the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the new regulatory framework that comes from being approved, which complies with the decarbonization path marked by the European institutions and guarantees an orderly and sustainable deployment of offshore wind, this being the central pillar of the development of renewable energies at sea.
“We are aware that consensus is the key so that the coexistence between the different productive sectors is effective”, said the delegate, so he launched “a message of tranquility”, in which he reiterated that “the Government is only going to approve projects that ensure respect for the environment and for the fisheries sector, fundamental and future in Galicia, which has the Government at its side at all times”. The delegate, in this sense, recalled that the Spanish regulations are “demanding and rigid, so that no initiatives will be carried out that in no way negatively impact on the marine ecosystem.”
Galicia, a pioneer industrial pole
“From the Government we work so that our Community is a pioneer in this offshore wind industry and takes advantage of all the job and reforming opportunities it offers,” said Pedro Blanco, noting that Galicia is currently a wind, fishing and naval power, “with a marine-port sector and technological and engineering capabilities that make it an international benchmark in the value chain of wind installations.”
Proof of this are the works that are being carried out in companies such as Navantia, “in Ferrolterra, where we are”. In fact, the Executive itself leads the process, “and good proof of this is the Experimental Platform in Punta Langosteira, in A Coruña, which will allow us to advance in the expansion of the offshore wind industry in Galicia and make our coasts a pioneering industrial pole and international reference, while adding a new economic engine that makes Galicia grow and improve”.
