The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, inaugurated this morning the days organized by the ALAR association, aimed at addressing gender violence from a multidisciplinary perspective. The event was attended by the delegate of the Xunta in Lugo, the councilor for Women, Equality and Inclusion, the general director of Fight against Gender Violence and the director of ALAR Galicia, as well as numerous experts and professionals in the field.
During her speech, the subdelegate stressed the importance of these days in the fight against one of the main problems of our society: male violence. “This is an issue that challenges all of us, not just the victims. It is not an individual or private problem, but a social issue that we must face together, without falling into the fallacies of negationist arguments,” he said.
Rodríguez recalled the shocking data provided by the Ministry of Equality, which this year already confirmed 38 women killed by gender violence in Spain, raising the total number from 2003 to 1282. He also mentioned the growing number of minors who were orphaned for this reason, 26 in which it goes from 2024 and 459 since 2013.
The subdelegate regretted that the province of Lugo is not unfamiliar with this structural problem, highlighting that there are currently 793 active cases in the VioGén system for the protection of victims of gender violence. He thanked the efforts of the State security forces and bodies, as well as professionals from the legal, psychological, labor and social fields who work as a network to offer a rapid and coordinated response to the victims.
In addition, Rodríguez called for the unity of all institutions and society to continue advancing in the defense of egalitarian values and feminist policies. “We can’t afford to take a single step back. Male violence is a violation of human rights and a direct attack on equality,” he said.
Finally, the subdelegate highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain in the fight against gender violence, recalling that the State Pact against Gender Violence, approved in 2017, allowed to implement various measures in this area. In the last year, the municipalities of the province of Lugo received more than 240,000 euros from the State Pact to improve resources and services for the care of victims.
“We are here because we share a common goal: to build a society free of violence, where all women can live without fear and in equality,” the deputy delegate concluded.
