Pontevedra, October 10, 2024.- The deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, presided together with the mayor, Clara Arévalo, the Local Security Xunta in which the protocol was signed that channels the accession of this City Council to the VioGén system of integral protection for women victims of gender violence. Losada affirmed that “any collaboration to protect women from this scourge is little”, but celebrated that with Mos there are already 18 municipalities in the province in the network.
In the Xunta, held in Pontevedra, also participated the lieutenant colonel of the Civil Guard, Óscar Grañas, and the head of the Unit Against Violence on Women of the Government Subdelegation, María José Rodríguez, among other State and municipal leaders. The signature implies, in practice, the incorporation of the Local Police mosense to the monitoring and protection of victims with lower risk in collaboration with the Civil Guard.
Abel Losada took advantage of this event to highlight that the recent murder of Fadoua Akkar in Domaio (Moaña) is 37 women who lost their lives so far this year due to gender violence in Spain. They are less than the 56 of the same period of the previous year, “but they are still many, too many”. Losada stressed that VioGén “is a work of everyone, of the consensus of the political forces and the Administrations, to join forces in the protection of women and, although this is mentioned less, it saves many lives and also makes it possible for many women to go out on the street without fear or, at least, with less fear.”
The deputy delegate thanked the Local Police and the Civil Guard for their involvement “because they are the ones who are “on the job” and stressed that “in a time when State pacts are scarce, the fight against gender violence is an example”.
Finally, Abel Losada informs that with the incorporation to VioGén, Mos will see an increase in the funds received by the State Pact of Gender Violence and urged the City to spend and justify these funds, given that this year he stopped inputting more than 4,000 of the 6,173 euros that corresponded to him because he had not spent the previous year’s allocation.
With this respect, Losada calls attention to the fact that a total of 11 municipalities in the province lost a total of 66,175 euros for the same reason, which is 11% of the almost 600,000 euros that the State Pact had to have distributed in the 61 municipalities. The subdelegate stressed that these are finalist funds, whose expenditure must be made and duly justified in the calendar year. The funds that remain unspent go to the remainder of the following year and serve to reward the municipalities that did properly spend 100% of their contributions.
