The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, presided today in A Coruña the act of condemnation for the male crime of Moaña and of support for all women who in Galicia live threatened by gender violence. Before observing a minute’s silence, Pedro Blanco reiterated that the Government “does not and will not take any step backwards to eradicate the violence against women that tragically hit us this weekend in Galicia”.
The government delegate also conveyed the solidarity of the Government of Spain with the family and acquaintances of Fadoua Akkar. This support extended to all women who in Galicia live under threat or suffer some kind of violence. He reminded them of the importance of reporting this situation to the Security Forces, regardless of their personal or legal situation. Finally, she had a memory for the women who died this year in Galicia due to gender violence, due to events that are “a step backwards for our democratic society, which we cannot consent to”.
Today’s event was held in the Government Delegation and was also attended by the Government’s deputy delegate in A Coruña, María Rivas, as well as workers from the Government Delegation and members of the State security forces and bodies. Among them were the Chief General of the Civil Guard of Galicia, Miguel González and the acting Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, Fernando Martínez. The councilor for Social Welfare, Participation and Equality of the Concello de A Coruña, Nereida Canosa, the head of the Coordination Unit against Gender Violence of the Delegation, María Debén, and the general secretary of the Delegation, Alberto de la Fuente, also attended.
Moaña's Crime
The Government Delegation against Gender Violence yesterday described the death of Fadoua Akkar, 41 years old, as a male crime. The event occurred in the early hours of last Saturday, in Domaio-Moaña (Pontevedra). The woman was a neighbour of the Pontevedresa parish of Salcedo, where she resided with her youngest son. The alleged assailant, with whom the deceased was in a relationship, was arrested on Saturday night and imprisoned.
With Fadoua, there are 37 women murdered by their partners or former partners so far this year in Spain, three of them in Galicia. Since there are statistics, there are 70 women killed in Galicia by male violence, and 20 boys and girls orphaned by this cause.

In an emergency you can call 112 or the emergency telephones of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). In case it is not possible to make a call, you can use the ALERTCOPS application, from which an alert signal will be sent to the police with geolocation. These means of assistance can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender violence.
