The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, warned today of the “tragedy” that it represents for society to gender violence and machismo, and that had a new expression this weekend with the crime of Fadoua Akkar in Moaña (Pontevedra).
Fadoua Akkar, 41, was described as a male murder by the Government’s Delegation against Gender Violence this morning. The event occurred in the early hours of last Saturday in Domaio-Moaña (Pontevedra). The woman was a neighbour of the Pontevedresa parish of Salcedo, where she resided with her youngest son.
The alleged assailant, with whom the deceased was in a relationship, was arrested on Saturday night. He is a neighbour of Moaña (Pontevedra) and has a prison record for another assault on a woman reported in 2012. In this regard, Pedro Blanco focused on the male recidivists in male violence, which today in Galicia are 1,517.
With Fadoua, 36 women have been murdered by their partners or former partners so far this year in Spain, three of them in Galicia. Since there are statistics, there are 70 women killed in Galicia by male violence, and 20 boys and girls orphaned by this cause. “We Galicians and Galicians cannot allow 70 women to die in these years because of violence that one part of society continues to minimize,” warned the delegate, adding that it is necessary to continue insisting “on the unity of all and all before this scourge.”
Public condemnation act
The government delegate announced for tomorrow, Tuesday, the call for a public act to condemn this murder and to support all the victims of male violence. This event, in which a minute of silence will be observed, will be held outside the headquarters of the Government Delegation, in A Coruña, at 9.30 a.m.
