The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, has highlighted the contribution of the National Police to keep Galicia as the third safest community in Spain. Pedro Blanco has made this reflection in the central act of the National Police Day, which has organized today in A Coruña the Superior Police Headquarters of Galicia and which has been attended by the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas. In his address, the delegate congratulated the men and women of the Police assigned to the Community police stations for this result, of which he affirmed that “it is one of the strengths of Galicia”.
Pedro Blanco recalled that this year the National Police commemorated its 200th anniversary “in the best conditions, reaching in Galicia the highest rate of police force of the last decade”. And he pointed out that the Government thus fulfills its responsibility with the citizens and with the National Police Force itself”, with about 3,400 people assigned to the police stations of Galicia.
He also wanted to highlight the events held during these months on the occasion of the second centenary, which “projected the image of a modern and effective police force”. These acts continue the work developed in recent years by the CNP to bring its functions closer to the citizens and win in proximity: “An effort that improves police work and, above all, strengthens the culture of prevention and security among the population.”
The delegate appealed to the prevention work of the Police, which develops through plans such as the Greater Security Plan, the School Coexistence Master Plan, meetings with associations and companies and also in the daily work of men and women police: “We must provide tools for people, companies, institutions, to develop their activities, their lives, studies and leisure, avoiding the impact of crime.” This preventive culture, said the delegate, is essential to tackle criminal typologies such as cyberscams, which this year experienced an increase in police statistics.
To this task Pedro Blanco added two priorities for the coming months. The first is the fight against hate speech, which “goes against fundamental rights, especially against migration or feminism.” The second is the protection of women victims of male violence, complying with the requirement of “providing safe spaces for these women and their families and eliminating from their environment any threat to their integrity. On this aspect, the delegate reaffirmed that “we are on the right side, that of the victims” while regretting “there are sectors that bother him, which are taking a profile in the face of a reality that in Galicia claimed the lives of two women this year”.
Institutional act
The central event of Police Day was held in the police complex of Lonzas, in A Coruña. It was attended by the acting Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, Fernando Martínez and the Presidential Council of the Xunta, Diego Calvo, among others.
During this celebration, the Superior Police Headquarters awarded 53 Police Merit Crossings to police officers and people outside the institution and paid tribute to the agents who agreed to retirement status during the last year and to those who died in the act of service.
The delegate had words of thanks to the former Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, Commissioner Ramón Gómez Nieto, who has recently retired. The next retirement of the current regional chief of operations, Commissioner Fernando Martínez Marty, current acting senior chief, also advanced. Of them, he highlighted that they closed “in Galicia with a golden brooch two races of police successes”.
