The Government’s Deputy Delegate to Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, presided over the commemorative events of the feast of the Holy Custodians, skippers of the National Police Force, in an emotional event that took place at the Veterinary Faculty of the USC. In the presence of various authorities, including the mayor of Lugo, the chief provincial commissioner, the territorial delegate, the subdelegate of Defense and representatives of the Civil Guard and the Prosecutor’s Office, the subdelegate made an eloquent speech in which she highlighted the tireless work of the National Police throughout its 200-year history.
Rodríguez began his speech by expressing his "deep gratitude" to all members of the National Police, stressing that his daily work in the police stations of Lugo, Viveiro and Monforte de Lemos is fundamental to maintaining security and freedom in the province. “Your tireless dedication strengthens our society and safeguards freedoms, the basis of our democratic rule of law,” said the deputy delegate, who made special mention of the bicentenary of the National Police, which is being held this year. In the same way, he stressed the Government’s commitment “to the permanent improvement of infrastructures to facilitate the work of the police, essential in the security of neighbors and neighbors.”
Main operations
During her speech, Isabel Rodríguez highlighted the work of the police in various operations carried out this year. Among them, he highlighted the fight against drug trafficking, with the arrest of five people in neighborhoods such as Recatelo, Piringalla and Avenida de A Coruña, and six others in the Milagrosa neighborhood, in addition to the seizure of more than 900 doses of narcotic substances. The subdelegate also mentioned the progress in the persecution of scams in the network and cybercrime, with such significant results as the recovery of 70,000 euros in collaboration with banking entities and the resolution of cases such as “Tocomocho”, in which 5,500 euros had been scammed by an elderly woman.
Current challenges
Another of the strong points of the subdelegate’s intervention was the recognition of the essential role of the National Police in the fight against male violence. Rodríguez stressed the importance of the rapid intervention of the agents in situations of danger to the victims and highlighted the sensitivity with which these cases are managed, deeply appreciating the work of the police force in this matter.
The sub-delegate also stressed the importance of adapting to new challenges, stating that they require a firm and determined response. “Your ability to adapt to the times and the new challenges that society demands continues to be an anchor of security for all,” he said.

To conclude the event, Isabel Rodríguez congratulated the honorees for their trajectory and merits within the National Police Force, reiterating his gratitude to all the agents for their unwavering commitment to society. “Thank you for making us feel safe and secure every day,” he concluded.
On this occasion, 16 distinctions were awarded to police merit 2024. The people awarded the Police Cross of Merit with a white badge were inspectors Arturo Teijeiro and Jesús Santos, sub-inspectors Pablo Manuel López, José Antonio Fernández and Alberto Sano Emeterio, police officers Horacio González and Víctor Parga, and police officers Oliverio Bouzas, Manuel Pérez, Alberto Santín, Lucía Neira, Laura García and Felipe Vázquez. In addition, the Cross of Police Merit with white badge was given to personnel outside the National Police by the head of the Local Police of Lugo, Jesús Piñeiro; the dean of the Official College of Lawyers, José Félix Mondelo; and the captain of the Civil Guard of Burela, Carlos Manuel Fernández.
