The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, attended this morning the commemorative acts of the Guardian Angels, patrons of the National Police, which consisted of a Mass in the Cathedral of Ourense, followed by an institutional act held in the municipal auditorium, in which the traditional awarding of medals and also the prizes to the winners of the first children’s drawing contest organized by this body.
Eladio Santos began his speech by acknowledging “the fundamental work done by men and women of this body, who ensure our security and our freedom” and also wanted to “pay a heartfelt tribute on this day to those who gave their lives in the performance of duty.”
In addition, he emphasized the values that inspire the action of the National Police every day, such as honesty, courage, respect and commitment to public service; for which he conveyed the gratitude of “all the citizens, the Government of Spain and the Ministry of the Interior”.
The subdelegate showed that the good work of the agents translates into the current figures on citizen security in the capital, where in the first half of the year a reduction in crime was observed. He also highlighted the work of the specific units to combat cybercrime and gender violence; and the important role played by the National Police participating in the talks that take place in schools on the occasion of the Master Plan of the Ministry of Interior, “for the education and prevention of violent behavior, drug consumption and additive behavior, harassment, cyberbullying and machista violence,” he said.
He also explained that the State Government is also aware of the needs of the National Police and tries to address them with the modernization of the facilities, constant training and reinforcement of the workforce, with 2,707 new places convened this year.
Finally, he did not want to end without highlighting “the necessary collaboration with other security forces: Civil Guard and Local Police, which have permanent channels of communication and coordination, in search of greater efficiency.”
The event was also attended by, among other authorities, Juan Cástor Vázquez, provincial chief commissioner of the National Police Force; Luis Menor, president of the Provincial Council; Aníbal Pereira, deputy mayor of the City of Ourense; Julián Pardinas, fiscal lieutenant of Ourense; Antonio Piña, president of the Provincial High Court; Rafael Berguillo, lieutenant colonel of the Command of the Civil Guard; and Manuel Pardo, territorial delegate of the Xunta in Ourense.
