The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, presided today over the events organized on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Mercy, patron of the Penitentiary Institutions, in which the work of 42 people of the province was highlighted through merit medals and honorable mentions. During his speech, Rodríguez acknowledged the importance of the work these workers do to ensure not only the custody, but also the reintegration of people deprived of their liberty.
No act, which included the participation of the mayor of Lugo and the mayors of Monterroso and Outeiro de Rei, as well as the directors of the Prison Centers of Bonxe and Monterroso, the subdelegate praised the effort and dedication of the staff of the two centers of the province, highlighting the role of surveillance officials, educators, psychologists, social workers and health personnel. He also indicated that “their work contributes directly to the reintegration of inmates, providing them with the necessary tools for a second chance in society.”
The deputy delegate of the Government added that “the representatives of Lucense society who gathered here today to celebrate with you the festivity of your patron, we want to give a public witness of the gratitude we feel for the work you do, and that is in the interests of all the neighbors of Lugo”. In this sense, he stressed that “beyond surveillance, these centers are committed to human dignity and rehabilitation, fundamental principles of a justice system that believes in the capacity of the human being to change and improve.”
Institutional commitment and thanks to officials
Isabel Rodríguez also took the opportunity to express, on behalf of the Government, her gratitude for the professionalism and dedication of the workers. He also reiterated the Executive’s commitment to continue working to improve working conditions and promote cooperation between institutions, society and the penitentiary system to achieve success in social reintegration.
Decorations
During the celebration, several decorations and recognitions were given to the staff of the Bonxe and Monterroso Centers, starting with the Silver Medal of Penitentiary Merit, which was awarded to the head of medical services of Bonxe, Álvaro Tomé Cortón; the doctor of Bonxe (posthumously), José Manuel López Seoane; and the pedagogue of Monterroso Mª Carmen Guitiérrez Trujillo. The Bronze Medal of Penitentiary Merit was awarded to Francisco Javier Rodríguez González, assistant of Bonxe’s internal service.
Not reaching the Prison Social Merit Medals, the silver was awarded to the President of the Red Cross, Luis Abejera Mayor; and the bronze medals Juan José Alonso Pereira, electrician of Clece; José Antonio Pumariño Paz, plumber of Clece; and Noel Ferreiro Sampayo, technician of the maintenance company.
The Honorable Mentions fell to José Javier Villas Pedruelo, Bonxe’s occupational monitor; Mª Isabel Val López, and Manuel González González, of Bonxe’s general offices; Marco Antonio Martín López, production coordinator at Bonxe; Imanol Corredoira Rebolo and Fernando Pérez Arias, of Monterroso’s body of assistants. Another of the recognized merits were the 25 years of service granted to Miguel Rodríguez López, Mary Cielo Gallardo Nuevos and Silvia Almoedo Rodríguez, as well as 10 other Bonxe and 15 Monterroso officials.
