María Rivas, deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, opened this morning the meeting on Safety on the Camino de Santiago that takes place within the framework of the Camino Siglo XXI project and that took place in the Museum of Pilgrimages.
The subdelegate highlighted the work carried out by the different Security Forces and Bodies to guarantee a safe Camino, “one of our most international tourist experiences, which year after year brings together hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world, and for which we mobilize in Galicia more than 3,600 troops along the more than 1,600 kilometers of routes within our community, of which 956 are in the province of A Coruña”.
Likewise, he wanted to thank the Local Police with whom we work in permanent coordination, as well as the Civil Protection groups, their volunteers and volunteers. He also thanked the representation of the Republican National Guard of Portugal for its presence on the day and for its participation in the international devices that work annually on the Camino de Santiago.
María Rivas detailed several of the measures carried out throughout the territory such as the deployment of the Mobile Offices of Attention to the Pilgrim, which, for the fourth consecutive summer, will be available all the way until November 1 providing assistance and demonstrating great effectiveness in the response offered. He also made reference to the information campaign #NoCaminasSola, which will extend to more than 1,600 points located in pilgrimage areas throughout Galicia, of which 763 are in the province of A Coruña, to attend to women who make the way that already represent 53% of the total number of walkers.
In addition, he insisted that the Ministry of the Interior facilitates the mobile application ALERTCOPS, which offers additional coverage to the entire route of the Camino, allowing the pilgrim who wishes to have services such as 24 hours a day care, as well as calls and alerts located in real time, all in 7 different languages.
“Our province, as the final stage of the Camino, has the singularity of grouping all the Xacobe routes, and in all of them the State Security Forces and Bodies are present”, as an example indicated that every 28 kilometers of road there is a nearby Civil Guard equipment, which in the first semester carried out more than 1000 services and 340 aids to pilgrims.
“The Government of Spain is making an important investment effort aimed at actions for the conservation and restoration of monuments and places of interest on the routes. Thanks to these actions, we will fine-tune and preserve for the future the historical heritage located on the Galician stretches of the Camino,” said Rivas.
Finally, the subdelegate recalled the daily and daily service performed by the different groups, associations and NGOs, which thanks to their joint action in the management of the Compostela route manage to meet the needs of pilgrims and protect the values associated with the pilgrimage.
