A Lama, September 4, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, appealed to the importance of restorative justice as a tool to “advance in freer and more democratic societies.” He did so at the closing of the workshop “Restorative Dialogues” that during the last two and a half months was given by the Érguete Association in the Penitentiary Center of the Lama.
No act, the subdelegate stressed that “we are all responsible for everyone, so we will only progress together.” To this end, he stressed the “importance of becoming aware and reflecting on the reasons why a person may end up in prison”, as well as on the fact that convicted persons “understand the impact caused by their crime, connect with the experience and consequences suffered by the victim and feel the need to look for ways to repair the damage”. Losada congratulated the 15 men and women inmates who participated in a program that was carried out thanks to a grant of 0.7% from the Ministry of Social Rights.
In addition, for the first time this workshop was aimed at people with addiction problems, an issue that for the subdelegate of the Government “is an added value due to the handicap that this implies”.
Abel Losada thanked in her closing ceremony the commitment of the director of the Penitentiary Center of the Lama, Teresa Delgado, and the work of the Érguete Association that qualified as a “reference” of social work, highlighting the action of its coordinator, Elvira Rivas, and the work of the psychologists of the entity that developed the workshop.
