The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, held a working meeting today with the territorial director of Commerce and the ICEX in Galicia, Patricia Pérez, in which they reviewed the foreign trade figures of the community, which comes from closing a first “historic” semester, occupying the sixth place in the State in turnover; a fact that “speaks very well of the competitiveness and the good work of Galician companies, which have in this Government one of their best allies”.
In this regard, the delegate stressed that the Galician business fabric “strengthens the growth and well-being of our country, as shown by the excellent data reached by the community between April and June” and recently published by the Ministry of Economy. In this line, he indicated that in the first six months of the year Galicia invoiced more than 15.5 billion euros with the sale of goods and services abroad, 3.5% than in the same period of the previous year.
“These figures are possible thanks to the impetus of sectors such as textiles and automobiles, which lead exports in the community, consolidating the foreign sector as one of the engines of our economy,” said the delegate.
In particular, the textile sector, with a strong weight in the data of the province of A Coruña, was what contributed most to the good progress of Galician exports, with 3,757 million euros (+1.95%), while the automotive sector and its auxiliary industry, well established in the province of Pontevedra, was the sector that increased its sales most between January and June, 8.4%, to 3,345 million euros.
The sum of both, which were among the first 5 exporting provinces of Spain, represents almost half of the community’s foreign sales, in which the contribution of sectors such as agri-food, slate or wood, which play a key role in the commercial balances of the provinces of the interior, or the fishing sector, in which more than half of the Spanish exports corresponded to Galicia, a total of 1.4 billion, is also noteworthy.
Pedro Blanco took advantage of the meeting to thank Patricia Pérez for her work and pledged to continue supporting the good progress of Galician companies from the Government and to facilitate the possibility of expanding markets outside our borders.
