The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, asked for prudence and responsibility at the wheel in the special operation First of August, which will begin today at 3 p.m. and which will end tomorrow, August 1 at 4 p.m.
María Rivas reported on this operation in which more than 200 agents are deployed throughout the province and in which 132,000 displacements are planned on the roads of Cordoba, 33% of the total of Galicia, which on these days will reach 527,000.
The subdelegate stressed the need to extreme driving precautions in a month that records the highest volume of road trips of the entire year. He pointed out that the DGT forecasts point to 1,595,000 on the roads of the province and more than 5.5 million in the whole of Galicia.
María Rivas regretted that, so far this year, the roads of the province recorded a total of 23 victims, eight more than in the same period of time of 2023. He reiterated that each of these victims represents a failure and “the Government spares no effort to combat this deadly accident, with surveillance and prevention campaigns throughout the year.”
In this regard, the subdelegate recalled the different campaigns developed throughout the year from the DGT to raise awareness of the use of reflective materials to vulnerable users, the obligation to wear the safety belt and the need for good maintenance of both private vehicles and collective or commercial transport.
Operation August Departure
With regard to Operation Exit, which begins today, the largest influx of vehicles will take place today between 15.00 and 23.00, where the main difficulty will be in the entrance and exit of the large urban centers.
Also for tomorrow, August 1 is expected a great intensity in the circulation in the direction of departure and entry of the large urban centers by the beginning of the tourist season in hotels and second residences. The most conflicting hours will occur between 8 am and 6 pm, so, as far as possible, it is advisable to avoid that time slot. The AP9, the A6 and the N-550 will be the roads of the province that register during these days a greater volume of traffic.
The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña highlighted the availability of means from the General Directorate of Traffic, with the deployment of agents on the roads, personnel of the Management Centers responsible for the maintenance of equipment and the installation of measures on the roads. María Rivas thanked the effort and work that all the DGT teams do “in order to guarantee safety and optimize the roads”.
For this operation throughout Galicia, 355 surveillance cameras and 402 data collection stations are active, sensors that, among other things, measure the distances between vehicles and the occupation of the road. In addition, there are also 487 variable message boards in operation that broadcast messages in real time on retentions, show recommendations and other aspects to take into account for safe driving
