The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided this morning together with the mayor of Padrón, Anxo Rei Arca, the meeting of the Local Security Board in which in addition to analyzing the data related to the citizen security measures in the City of Padrón, they also addressed the security device for the stage of the cycling return 2024 that will take place on August 28 in the city hall.
This 11th stage will have Padrón as a starting point and arrival, with a route of 164 kilometers. It is not the first time that the race passes through this town hall, it was already in the past point of passage and usually departure from the final stage of the Camino de Santiago, it was also the starting point of the final stage of the Vuelta on two occasions. In both, in 1993 and 2021, the stage was an individual time trial that ended in Santiago de Compostela. In 2024, Padrón will be the absolute protagonist of the 11th stage, with start and finish at the Cortizo Technological Campus.
The subdelegate also highlighted the cycling tradition of this locality since in this locality was born in 1956 "O Padrón" the Peña Bicista Bernárdez, original name of the current Padronés Cycling Club, the oldest team in Galicia that is one of the most important in the national amateur field.
As for the device, there will be 35 agents, 20 motorcycles and 10 vehicles of Civil Traffic Guard in the subsector of A Coruña, and also with the support of the Citizen Security unit of the Civil Guard. Both the deputy delegate, who offered all the collaboration for the special device of the cycling tour, and the mayor highlighted the collaboration and coordination between the State Security Forces and Bodies and the Local Police to face this important event.
Throughout the tour, the return will be accompanied by a Road Safety and Mobility Unit, which will be responsible for ensuring the safety and mobility of the runners, organizational vehicles and caravan, as well as the rest of the ordinary circulation affected by the competition.
An advanced command post will be established from which all members of the security forces, security forces and emergency teams will be coordinated.
The subdelegate of the government insisted that all the people who attend this competition, at all times, heed the instructions of the agents in charge of ensuring our safety, and in particular, called for the private vehicle not to be used to access the exit and end of stage area to avoid collapses in the accesses.
During the meeting of the Security Board, a review was also made of the crime rates of the city council, to this respect Rivas stressed that it is one and a half point below the provincial average. Specifically, the crime rate in Padrón stood at 36 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants, compared to 37.5 crimes per 1,000 for the province as a whole. This rate is also below the state average of 51 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants.
María Rivas wanted to highlight the significant improvement in the level of clarification of the year 2023 with respect to the previous year, being very significant in the section of scams that improves by almost 5%, but also in the other criminal offenses that improves by 2.81%. Data from this first semester consolidate this trend, once again improving the rate of clarification by 2%, with a drop of 10% in crimes.
VioGen
Another important point of the meeting was also the analysis of data relating to gender violence. The subdelegate reported that to date, in the province of A Coruña there are 2,458 active cases within the VioGen system.
She stressed that “each of the 2,458 victims is a reminder that we must continue to work together and relentlessly to protect these 2,458 women and their families. It is a primary objective of the Government’s subdelegation, which is why we call on all municipalities with local police to join the VioGén system so that all public resources can be made available to the victims. Protecting them is everyone’s job.”
Thus, he recalled that in the province there are already 22 municipalities that formalized their incorporation to VioGen, and that another 9 municipalities are currently in the process of accession. In this sense, he invited the city of Padrón to join the accession protocol. He also stressed the importance of working through the Interinstitutional Coordination Tables, of which 39 are currently in operation, one of them in the city of Padrón.
For this reason, María Rivas once again called for the collaboration and coordination of administrations as an essential tool to improve the protection of victims of gender violence. “It is the local police who are most attached to the territory, know the environment and the neighborhood better, and their contribution is very important.”
Finally, María Rivas pointed out that the funds of VioGén that the municipalities receive from the State Pact against Gender Violence, and that they have just been updated with a new contribution of 762,935.24 published in the BOE on 19 May; they are the example of how collaboration between the different institutions favors the fight against male violence and the achievement of more egalitarian societies.
In this regard, he recalled that the city of Padrón received from 2018 a total of 32,774.59 euros within the framework of the State Pact, and that this year it will receive 9,500 euros to develop equality policies, awareness-raising actions and activities aimed at achieving a more egalitarian society and with zero tolerance with male violence.
