The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, visited today the Association MISELA (Association of People with Disabilities of the region of Noia and Muros), where she was able to see the work that this entity develops in favor of equality.
María Rivas wanted to highlight and point out in a special way that the association has approved a Protocol for the prevention and action against sexual harassment and harassment based on sex, “an entity that incorporates the prevention of harassment and equality in its daily work, without a doubt is an entity whose model we must all help to make visible.” The association also has an Equality Plan and a violet point.
The subdelegate stressed that “MISELA works to promote the autonomy and integration of people with disabilities in the family, school, social and work environment; and therefore works with highly vulnerable people, and that vulnerability also affects women with disabilities in a very special way”, so working on their protection and prevention is fundamental.
María Rivas, shared with the entity the commitment of the Government in the fight for equality and against gender violence which materializes in the more than 82 million euros invested in Galicia since 2018 in actions of prevention and fight against male violence. Of these, more than 73 million were transferred to the Xunta to finance its actions in this matter.
Thus, he recalled that on July 19, it was published in the B.O.E. the new transfer of funds from the Pact of State that brings to Galicia 1,052,868.12 euros through 3 calls: the personalized plans for women victims of gender violence and their children, with 63,595.40€; the programs of support for victims of aggression and/or sexual abuse, with 529,755.36€ and the program of right to comprehensive social assistance for victims of gender violence and care for minors, with 459,517.36€
Rivas stressed that the transfers to local entities were also approved within the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence for the financial year 2024, the so-called VioGén funds, which will bring a total of 762,935.24 to the municipalities of the province of A Coruña to develop equality policies, awareness-raising actions and activities aimed at achieving a more egalitarian society and with zero tolerance to male violence.
During the visit, he was accompanied by the director of the center: Aurora Vázquez, the psychologist and secretary of the association: Mª Oliva Filgueira Peña and the technique and responsible for the Violeta Point: Sara Lojo Suárez; who transferred the work they carry out through the Day Center and Occupational Center, in which currently 19 workers and 2 workers work. The head of the unit against violence against women of the government subdelegation, Manuela Vilaboy, also participated in the visit.
