The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided today the official act of taking office of the new provincial commissioner of A Coruña, Commissioner Carlos Gómez, who transferred as challenges in his command to the protection of public rights and freedoms to safeguard coexistence and care for women victims of gender violence. In her speech, María Rivas insisted that “there are no excuses for gender violence,” and stressed that “preventing and prosecuting violence against women is a priority that we owe to our society and a prelude to real equality.” On the second challenge, the subdelegate insisted on the need to ensure a “healthy coexistence, in our streets, in leisure and at work”, for which she asked the National Police for an added effort to “be closer every day to the people of Córdoba and the people of Córdoba, and that your presence is a guarantee of security, protection and protection as it has always been until now”.
In the speech he also reviewed the trajectory of the new provincial commissioner, who joined as an inspector in the National Police Force. The subdelegate highlighted from her more than 25 years of police career her responsibilities in specialized and prestigious units in the fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. And he pointed to the last fate of the commissioner, as head of the Central Narcotics Brigade “that tells us about his capacity and worth.” From this unit, the operational coordination of territorial units dedicated to the prosecution of drug trafficking and organized crime is carried out at the national level.
The subdelegate wanted to have words of thanks to the superior chief of Police of Galicia, Ramón Gómez, and the regional chief of Operations and former provincial commissioner, Fernando Javier Martínez, since in a few weeks they will reach retirement age. Details of the new Commissioner
Carlos Gómez Rodríguez, Head of the Provincial Commissariat of A Coruña, was born in Salamanca on July 16, 1965. He surpassed his entry into the National Police Force as an inspector in 1998 and became a commissioner in 2018. He has a degree in Geological Sciences.
In his career he was assigned to the Unit of Undercover Agents, the Central Brigade of Investigation of Money Laundering and Anti-Corruption and the Central Brigade of Narcotics, of which he became head in the year 2023. In these years, Carlos Gómez was the subject of 114 individual and collective public congratulations. He was also distinguished with seven crosses of the Order of Police Merit, the Order of Merit of the Civil Guard and the Naval Merit.
The new commissioner will have under his command more than 1,300 troops assigned to the four local police stations in the province (A Coruña, Ferrol-Narón, Santiago and Ribeira) and to the documentation unit located in Carballo. An extensive territory in which more than 475,000 people live and where an important industrial fabric is located.
