The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, visited this morning an exhibition organized by the Civil Traffic Guard Group on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of this body. The deputy delegate was accompanied by the Lieutenant Colonel Chief of the Traffic Sector of Galicia, Antonio Hidalgo Romero and José Ángel Corral Segade, Commander-in-Chief of the Traffic Subsector in A Coruña.
The subdelegate wanted to convey her congratulations on the performance of her daily work to the 268 agents, women and men who make up the Traffic Subsector of A Coruña and who are part of a staff that arrives in Galicia up to the 854 agents of the Civil Traffic Guard.
On this 65th anniversary, the subdelegate María Rivas pointed out that since the constitution of the body with barely 560 troops, there are 9,000 of them scattered throughout the State today, the Traffic Group has been a fundamental pillar to protect and guard the communication channels, guaranteeing with its work the daily safety of the thousands of people who transit through them.
During these 65 years, more than 10,000 students passed through the school of the Association that is currently in Mérida, which allowed over time to improve the service provided by the Civil Traffic Guard.
On the day of open doors, a tour of the history of the Civil Traffic Guard is made with an exhibition of historic motorcycles and costumes but also of the most modern material. In fact, today the continuous improvement of training and material endowments allowed the transversal evolution of his work ranging from research to aerial surveillance, all equipped with modern technology that speeds up the procedures and serves to reinforce surveillance on the roads.
The deputy delegate recalled that the Civil Traffic Guard has among its tasks to monitor, regulate, assist and control transport traffic, as well as guarantee road safety on interurban roads. A mission that translates into the protection and assistance of people who use public roads, the monitoring and discipline of traffic, the investigation and instruction in case of accidents and the monitoring of compliance with the regulations on road transport.
María Rivas pointed out that with her work they undoubtedly contribute to the improvement of road safety, which also translates into a decrease of 17 fatalities in the province in relation to the year 2022, going from 43 to 26 victims in the last year. The deputy delegate pointed out that “it should be noted that the descent is marked in the province, with 40% fewer people dead than in the previous year, which is also the most positive of the four Galician provinces”.
Rivas acknowledged the work carried out in these 65 years of history, “I want to thank all the people who make up the Civil Traffic Guard Group for being on the roads every day to ensure the safety of people.” Finally, he wanted to convey his pride for each of the women and men who make up the Civil Traffic Guard Group, and convey “my most sincere congratulations for this 65th anniversary.”
