The 61 municipalities of the province of Pontevedra will enter in the coming days 526,592 euros from the funds of the State Pact against Gender Violence. The funds are specifically intended for the implementation of programs aimed at the eradication of gender violence by developing municipal competences and also the competences extended according to the State Pact of Gender Violence, signed in 2018.
The deputy delegate of the Government, Abel Losada, especially regrets that the province of Pontevedra will lose 66,175 euros this year, which is more than 11% of the total of 592,592 euros allocated, because there are 11 municipalities that did not justify having made the spending of the prevention programs financed by the State Pact in previous years. Abel Losada explained that these are finalist funds and, therefore, the funds that remain unexecuted in the previous annuities are deducted from the following allocation.
A total of 6 Pontevedra municipalities will not receive funds from the State Pact this year, according to the resolution that comes from the publication of the Ministry of Equality, because the amount they have unexecuted from previous annuities is equal to or greater than that granted in this 2024. In addition, another five summer municipalities significantly reduced the contributions of the State Pact due to partial lack of execution. These remnants will be distributed next year among all municipalities in Spain that adequately justify their level of execution.
Losada stressed that gender violence is “a scourge that affects and donates the whole society and, consequently, it is necessary that the administrations, both the municipalities and the Xunta de Galicia, do not lose a single cent of the state funds they receive to combat it.” “We talk about protecting women and saving lives,” he said, “and all that is done is little.”
Abel Losada recalled that the Government of Spain presided over by Pedro Sánchez made a verifiable effort to increase the funding directed to municipalities to finance programs to prevent and combat male violence. This year, almost 600,000 euros were granted to the municipalities of the province, which represents a 52% increase over the 388,767 euros transferred in 2018 by the government that presided over Mariano Rajoy. “But if that money is not taken advantage of, it’s clear that something is wrong,” he said.
The funds of the State Pact against Gender Violence are aimed at local entities and autonomous communities. No municipal field to amount of funds varies depending on the number of municipalities in each province and also takes into account the population of each municipality. In addition, they receive additional amounts if the Local Police collaborates with the State Forces and Bodies in the VioGén system of protection for victims and, finally, if the municipalities are attached to the ATENPRO service, so the municipal Social Services provide a mobile phone to support and help the victims of all kinds of sexual violence.
