The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided together with the mayor of Santiago, Goretti Sanmartín, the meeting of the Local Security Board in which a review of the security device was made for the festivities of the Apostol, especially on the 25th and 31st as they are the ones with the greatest concentration of visitors.
The subdelegate of the government expressed the total commitment of the Security Forces and Corps with the reinforcement of the operation for these festivities so important for the Galician capital, but which receive visitors from all over the country. Both the deputy delegate and the mayor wanted to highlight the collaboration and coordination between the State Security Forces and Bodies and the Local Police.
In this regard, María Rivas reported that “we are going to reinforce the security device with the presence of the Police Intervention Unit, Prevention and Reaction Unit, also with the canine unit and subsurface inspection, as well as experts in the deactivation of explosives. We will also have the Mobile Brigade and the Citizen Security Unit. For aerial surveillance this year we will have drones and an anti-drone system, and also with the support of a helicopter. Also incorporated into the device is a cavalry detachment that will be present in the Monte del Gozo, but that will also be in the area of the Alameda. This extensive operation will work in coordination and permanent collaboration with the Local Police and with the rest of the emergency services typical of these parties.”
To carry out this coordination task, an advanced command post will be installed at the National Police Station of Santiago, which will be operational from 17 hours on the 24th to the end of the events scheduled for the 25th.
“An important reinforcement of means, with which we want to respond to the request of the city council. However, we also appeal to respect the recommendations of the authorities at all times so that these dates are a guarantee of fun, but also of security,” said Rivas.
The deputy delegate, told the mayor, the support and total willingness to collaborate with the City Council from the Government Subdelegation and from the State Security Forces and Bodies to establish the necessary devices to avoid any type of incident in those events that gather a greater number of people during the holidays, always in coordination with the Local Police and municipal and emergency services.
The subdelegate also wanted to value the work of information and prevention that is developed from the “violet points” and announced that efforts are being redoubled to fight against male aggression, also remembering that this is an action that belongs to the whole of society so she urged to have zero tolerance with male and sexist behaviors during the holidays, remembering that anyone can and should denounce them.
Finally, the deputy delegate and the mayor called on citizens to respect the security measures and to follow at all times the indications transmitted by the security forces and bodies. “We want everyone to enjoy the holidays, but we also want safe and respectful celebrations with a city that is a World Heritage Site and that therefore all of us must take care of.”
